Sharon McHugh

Sharon is an architect, design journalist and founder of Consulting 4 Creatives, where she advises architects and the institutions that engage them on the best practices to advance design excellence. Based in New York City and Princeton, New Jersey, Sharon has worked in the offices of leading global design practices and was the long time US Editor of the preeminent architecture and design magazine, Abitare. She currently serves as the US Correspondent for World Architecture News and is a contributing writer for The Architects Newspaper, Architectural Record, The Art Newspaper, Competitions, Il Giornale dell’ Architettura, Interior Design, and Modern. Sharon holds advanced degrees in architecture, urban design, and historic preservations from the University of Pennsylvania and has received numerous awards, including the Young Architects Award (1995) from the Architectural League of New York for collaborative work with John Nastasi Architect, and an AIA Honor Award for Excellence (2004) for the Cornel West Pavilion, acquired by the Grounds for Sculpture, a sculpture park and museum. Sharon frequently serves on professional design juries and has been a visiting design critic/lecturer at Princeton University, the University of Virginia and the University of Urbino, among others. She has been a ‘first-cut’ nominator for the Cooper Hewitt National Design Awards and the Pulitzer Foundation’s PXSTL Vacant Lot Competition.
